The Detroit Red Wings will be at a significant disadvantage in Thursday night’s matchup against the Oilers in Edmonton.

Last night, the Detroit Red Wings beat the Calgary Flames at the Saddledome Arena to earn their fourth straight win and the first rank in the Atlantic Division:

“We’re really happy that we got points. Obviously, when you’re on the road and playing in these buildings, it’s not an easy thing, but I certainly wouldn’t classify that as our A-game, even when we were up 4-0. Some of our game management skills came into question again. Good thing that Gibby was sharp, especially down the stretch.” – Todd McLellan

Tonight, they will be back in action for their second of back-to-back games in Edmonton, against Connor McDavid and the Oilers.

However, the organization made an official roster move, which confirmed worrying news about the defenseman Simon Edvinsson.

Red Wings Call Up Gustafsson After Simon Edvinsson Leaves Game

Detroit also stated that Mason Appleton had been placed on the Injury Reserve retroactive to November 29th:

Gustafsson, 33, took part in only one game with the Red Wings this season. The veteran spent nearly all year in the AHL, where he scored 14 points in 14 games.

As for Edvinsson, an update is still awaited from the Red Wings, which is concerning for fans.

The 22-year-old defenseman plays an important role at the blue line, one that isn’t easily replaceable.

Stay tuned for further updates ahead of the game.
