The Vancouver Canucks cannot seem to escape the Quinn Hughes trade rumours, as it is already believed that the captain will not be staying in Vancouver, NHL insider Pierre LeBrun believes they are on a time crunch to trade him.
“Whether it’s this season or in the summer, it feels like a a trade involving Quinn Hughes is inevtivable at this point, with teams like the New Jersey Devils and Detroit Red Wings already speaking with Patrik Allvin about the blueliner, while the Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers have also been mentioned as potential fits.”-Jaxon
Quinn Hughes needs to be traded before the end of the season.
The NHL trade deadline this year is March 6th, and LeBrun believes a deal needs to get done before then for Hughes, his value will drop significantly if he is only dealt in the summer because it means the team that picks him up only has one year guaranteed with him, rather than a playoff run after the deadline.
Pierre LeBrun: Re Quinn Hughes: Trading him before March 6th is a cleaner procedure, that means you don’t involve Pat Brisson the agent…and you don’t have Hughes and Brisson come July basically picking their team – That’s Hockey (12/8)
Hughes has been linked to so many teams now it’s hard to keep count. But one thing is for sure, the defensemen has zero interest in staying with the Canucks. This season was icing on the cake for the star defensemen. With a poorly built team and bad luck with injuries, Hughes has looked physically and emotionally defeated during games. And at this point he is more valuable as a trade asset than as a member of the Canucks.
