Since the 2017-18 season, the Maple Leafs have lost a higher number of players than almost any other team in the NHL to suspensions, showing they have a bone to pick with Parros.

The perception that the Toronto Maple Leafs are being unfairly targeted for suspensions by the head of the Department of Player Safety has been around for a while now.

Analyst and OJHL assistant GM Jeff Veillette has updated a chart of suspensions and games missed from each team around the NHL since the start of the 2017-18 season. It covers both the regular season and playoffs, and includes only suspensions handed out for on-ice incidents.

The numbers show only the Washington Capitals have had players miss more games due to suspensions than the Maple Leafs.

Case for Bias Against the Maple Leafs has merit

On top of these numbers, it’s important to remember that the Caps have Tom Wilson on their roster. He has been fairly quiet this season, but a suspension magnet over the course of his career. All 40 games missed for Washington in this chart were due to Wilson getting suspended.

It’s also worth noting that despite having Wilson on their roster and missing more games overall due to suspension, the Maple Leafs have received more suspensions overall since the 2017-18 season began (Maple Leafs: 12, Washington Capitals: 9).

Maple Leafs at top of games missed due to suspension list adding fuel to claims of bias

If the league hopes to stifle questions around Parros’ supposed bias towards the Maple Leafs, this chart does absolutely nothing to help them. If this trend continues, you would think the NHL would have no choice but to look into it at some point. However, the outcry from fans appears to be falling on deaf ears.
