As the new NHL season continues on, there is expected to be all sorts of trade activity going around the league next spring. Once the trade deadline comes around, teams across the NHL will be looking to improve rosters with the hope of going after a Stanley Cup title.

Many of the trade rumors from the summer didn’t come to fruition, but they are still in existence, even if just tucked away for now. One of these comes from the St. Louis Blues, who have been potentially looking for a trade of star wing Jordan Kyrou.

There were multiple teams over the offseason who showed interest in trading for Kyrou, but the team held off making a move for now. The star is a big part of what the Blues do on the ice, but St. Louis is looking ahead to the future, especially with the late contract that Kyrou has.

Kyrou still has six more seasons left on his current contract with the Blues, but St. Louis has been rumored to want out of the deal. The veteran is owed $8.12 million each year, and this could seriously complicate matters during any trade talks.

But the wing is still a very good player, and there could be a team that may be willing to take on his salary. Last season for the Blues, Kyrou put up 36 goals and had 34 assists over 82 games played in the regular season.

Teams across the NHL tend to take on these types of contracts all the time, and Kyrou could be a player who is worth doing so. Due to his abilities on the ice, he could end up being the missing piece for some team contending for a Stanley Cup title.

However, it remains to be seen how the Blues will play this entire situation. If they were to move him, the team could likely net some strong trade assets for the future.

One team that could make a serious play for Kyrou, if he is made available on the trade market, is the New York Islanders. New York has been searching for different ways to improve their roster, and adding a talent like Kyrou to the mix could be very helpful.

Kyrou does have a no-trade clause, which could complicate matters, but the Islanders could be appealing. The veteran would get the chance to play in New York, and for a team that is on the come-up.

The Islanders have a strong prospect pool that the Blues could pick from if the front office wanted to go that route. Or they could always look to land an established player in the NHL from New York.

Both sides could build more toward the future of the franchises, and this could be a major blockbuster move for each. If anything, the Islanders should be watching the situation of Kyrou carefully as the trade deadline approaches next spring.
