The Detroit Red Wings reassigned goaltender Carter Gylander to the Grand Rapids Griffins who play the Rockford IceDogs tonight at 7 p.m.

Gylander’s is the corresponding move to the Griffins’ release of veteran Dustin Tokarski on Friday. That means that injured Michal Postava (lower body) isn’t yet ready to rejoin the Griffins’ active roster. He hasn’t played for the Griffins since he was injured Nov. 9.

The former Colgate goalie Gylander has moved back and forth from the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye to the Griffins in the AHL multiple times. He has been sharp for the Griffins, posting a 4-0-1 record and 2.01 with in five outings.

The Red Wings seem to be deep at the goaltender position with Sebastian Cossa (15th, 2021), Trey Augustine (41st, 2023), Postava (free agent acquisition), Gylander (191st, 2019), Rudy Guimond (169th, 2023), Michal Pradal (75th, 2025) and Landon Miller (126th, 2024) all showing well this season.

Gylander owns a 2.99 GAA and 4-3-1 record for the Walleye.  The Griffins play at home today against the IceHogs and Sunday on the road against the Chicago Wolves.  With the quick turn around and the travel involved, Gylander should get one of those games.

With Augustine unsigned and Postava injured, Cossa is the clear No. 1 goaltending prospect. He’s having an exceptional season. He’s 11-1 with a 1.76 GAA and .935 save percentage.  Should the Red Wings have a goaltending injury, he would be the call-up.

Grand Rapids, 20-1-0-1, is off to one of the top three starts in AHL history.
