MASSENA— Bryan Jones has a passion for helping develop hockey talent, and is committing to helping players in the North Country by opening a training complex in Massena.
JHD Training Zone will open its doors Feb. 1 at state Highway 420, located in the town of Massena.
The Facility will be complete with a skating treadmill, synthetic ice shooting lanes, stick handling machine, and other specialized equipment.
Jones says his development facility fills a local need, recalling childhood trips to Ottawa and elsewhere to access similar services. “There was always a gap in the resources and training options local athletes had available,” he said.
“We have a lot of youth that play hockey around here, but they never get the same opportunities,” Jones added.
“We do camps all over NY state, but are focused and invested in the North Country for years to come. This is a statement into our commitment to the North Country, and my commitment to developing and hopefully advancing players to the next level that are around here.”
Jones brings a strong hockey pedigree to the business. He played junior hockey in Vancouver and Dallas and got his start playing for the St. Lawrence Steel travel team.
He’s the former director of scouting for the Chilliwack Chiefs, a team in the minor league BCHL.
His father Casey was previously the men’s hockey coach at Clarkson, and currently coaches at Cornell.
Jones says that even though his playing career ended in injury, “I still had a strong passion for the game and felt unfinished business.”
The Training Zone supplements Jones’s existing business, Jones Hockey Development, which he says has held clinics for thousands of players in the past couple of years. The facility will contain a variety of specialized equipment, including a skating treadmill, synthetic ice, and a stick handling machine.
