We have another Monday Night Hockey on Prime edition of NHL predictions as the Ottawa Senators and Winnipeg Jets both try to get back on track. Both clubs have only won three games in their last 10. However, the two teams are coming off differing results on Saturday.
The Senators lost a narrow 3-2 decision to the Minnesota Wild on Saturday afternoon. Dylan Cozens provided a goal and an assist in the loss for Ottawa, which is 3-7 in the last 10 games.
The Jets were on the winning end of a 5-1 victory over the Washington Capitals. Gabriel Vilardi scored twice, but the big news was the return of Connor Hellebuyck. The Hart Trophy winner made 24 saves in his return to the lineup after 12 games.
Let’s take a look at the stats and storylines heading into this Monday Night Hockey on Prime showdown. It’s a pivotal game between Canadian opponents.
The Senators Story
Ottawa comes into this game currently sitting in seventh place in the Atlantic Division. Injuries and inconsistent play have slowed down the Senators in the first part of the season. Coming into Sunday’s games, Ottawa is fourth in power play percentage with a 26.3 percent success rate. However, the Senators have struggled on the penalty kill with a 69.8 kill rate.
Linus Ullmark is the expected starter for Ottawa, but always check social media before locking in a daily fantasy starter. Ullmark has struggled to find consistency this season with an 11-8-4 record, 3.05 goals-against-average, and an .877 save percentage.
Tim Stutzle leads the way in goals (15) and is tied with Drake Batherson for the most points on the team (30). Cozens has eight points in his previous 10 games entering this matchup.
The Jets Story
Winnipeg is the defending Presidents’ Trophy winner. However, the team has also struggled with injuries and shaky play entering the holiday season. The Jets sit in sixth entering Sunday’s game in a very tough Central Division.
However. Winnipeg might be cleared for takeoff after getting Hellebuyck back against the Capitals. The defending Vezina Trophy winner has a 9-6 record, 2.41 GAA, and .916 save percentage. Winniepg looked like its old self with him back in the lineup.
Mark Scheifele and Kyle Connor have already reached the 40-point mark. Scheifele and Vilardi are tied for the team’s lead in goals with 16.
Prediction
Both teams are on the outside of the postseason picture. However, these two teams are talented enough to get back into contention.
However, Winnipeg was rejuvenated with Hellebuyck in the crease. Ullmark has been too inconsistent at times this season.
Prediction: Jets win 4-2.
Prop Bets of the Night
We close out this Monday Night Hockey on Prime edition of NHL predictions with some preferred prop bets. The over/under for the Senators versus the Jets is 5.5, and we like the over in this game.
As for individual props, go with Stutzle to get an anytime goal for Ottawa. On the Winnipeg side of things, take Scheifele to have a multiple-point night.
