The Pittsburgh Penguins’ recent trade acquisitions are on their way to Pittsburgh, immigration paperwork in hand and activated by the team Monday.
Goaltender Stuart Skinner and defenseman Brett Kulak, who were acquired in the Tristan Jarry trade Friday have been activated. However, rookie goalie Sergei Murashov, who was the losing goalie Sunday in the Penguins’ latest third period collapse, was returned to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
Murashov stopped 32 of 37 shots Sunday, including numerous difficult saves in the first two periods to maintain the Penguins’ growing advantage. Yet for the second consecutive day, the team wasted a large lead, losing their 3-0 advantage over the first 7:06 of the third period in a 5-4 overtime loss.
Skinner, 27, has backstopped the Edmonton Oilers to the last two Stanley Cup Finals, but questions about his ability to be the No. 1 goalie or get the Oilers over the hump from runner-up to champion lingered.
Kulak, 31, is a steady left-handed defenseman who will fit quickly into the Penguins’ lineup.
The pair had been held up awaiting visas, as both are Canadians.
