Quinn Hughes starts his new chapter, and the Flyers get a bit of Deja Vu.
The Philadelphia Flyers wrapped up a home-and-home with the Carolina Hurricanes this past weekend. Same result, different day.
Around the league, the post-Quinn Hughes era in Vancouver is off to a bang, while their opponent continues to struggle. The Flyers next opponent picked up a big win as they begin to build some momentum.

Philadelphia Flyers
Philly Hockey Now: It was deja vu… not the first, nor the second, but the third time this season that the Philadelphia Flyers and Carolina Hurricanes went to overtime. The Flyers and Canes went to overtime for the third time in three meetings, and a shootout for the second time just this past weekend. However, the Flyers were unable to change the end result, coming away with just one point on Sunday.
It was the same fate they suffered on Saturday as well. The Flyers just cannot seem to get two points from the Hurricanes this season.
In other news, Lukas Reichel cleared waivers on Sunday. So, that makes him ineligible to be claimed by the Flyers (and the Flyers did not claim him). However, he was waived for non-roster purposes, making him a free agent and eligible to start in the AHL. While he can no longer be claimed, should the Flyers still be interested?
NHL rumors & news
The Athletic ($): The Quinn Hughes era in Minnesota has begun. Vancouver shipped its superstar defenseman to the Wild in exchange for a massive haul. Why would the wild do that with no guarantee he’d stay? Michael Russo writes that the Wild have reason to believe.
Plus, you always have this:
ESPN: Speaking of the trade, Zeev Buium opened up for the first time since the trade. The 20-year-old showed the maturity of a long-time player. Buium opened up about the trade process and what he’ll use as motivation moving forward.
New Jersey Hockey Now: Speaking of Buium and the Canucks, they really stuck it to the New Jersey Devils in their first game without Quinn Hughes. It was an ugly loss for the Devils, who couldn’t find a win against the 32nd-ranked team in the league.
Montreal Hockey Now: Now, on the flip side, a Flyers rival who has been struggling (and their next opponent) figured it out with a big win vs. Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday. The Flyers head to Montreal on Tuesday.
