We saw some action on NHL waivers today involving a forward, and it is interesting for Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens.
A young and promising forward, Jonatan Berggren, has just been placed on waivers by the Detroit Red Wings. It looks exactly like what the St. Louis Blues did with Alexandre Texier a few weeks ago.
Jonatan Berggren placed on waivers: an intriguing option for Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens
See the official announcement here:
The Detroit Red Wings have placed forward Jonatan Berggren on waivers.
Ryan Hana reports that Berggren was seeking a new start as he wants a bigger opportunity on an NHL roster than he’s getting in Hockeytown.
Last season, Berggren recorded 24 points in 75 games, with 12 goals and 12 assists. This season, he has 6 points in 15 games.
For the Montreal Canadiens, the appeal lies mainly in the opportunity to add a solid young forward without having to pay, exactly the way Kent Hughes did with Samuel Blais and Alexandre Texier.
Also regarding NHL waivers, two additional players were waived today.
The Chicago Blackhawks waived goaltender Laurent Brossoit. The 32-year-old most recently played with the Winnipeg Jets, where he posted impressive numbers, recording 15 wins in 23 starts, along with a 2.00 goals-against average and a .927 save percentage.
Over his NHL career, Brossoit owns a 2.64 goals-against average and a .911 save percentage across 140 games played.
For comparison, Canadiens goaltender Samuel Montembeault has a career goals-against average of 3.24 and a .897 save percentage in 221 games.
Lastly, the Dallas Stars have placed 24-year-old defenseman Vladislav Kolyachonok on waivers. He has recorded three points in 11 games so far this season.
