Lucas Gero had a dominant performance, scoring a hat trick and adding two assists to lead Madison to a 5-1 victory over Montville at Mennen Arena in Morristown.

Gero opened the scoring in the second period, assisted by Luke Cumming and Mokun Shi. He then added two more goals, including a shorthanded tally, to put the game out of reach. Gero’s teammates also contributed to the scoring, with Patrick Layng netting a goal and Ryan McSherry adding a goal and an assist.

Madison jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first period on a goal by McSherry, assisted by Gero. The Dodgers then broke the game open with four goals in the second period, including three by Gero.

Montville’s lone goal came on the power play in the third period, scored by Julian van de Graaf with assists from Nicholas Brynczka and Cole Riley.

Madison goalie Nick Worthington had a strong game, making 31 saves on 32 shots for a .969 save percentage. Montville’s Shayne Urspruch faced 43 shots, making 38 saves.

Madison outshot Montville 43-32 in the game. The Dodgers killed off three of four Montville power plays, while scoring once shorthanded.
