As the Maple Leafs get set to take on the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday, head coach Craig Berube provided a significant update on Joseph Woll.
A lower-body injury forced the Leafs to turn to Dennis Hildeby ever since, and while he may have floundered against the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday, the rest of his run has been brilliant.
Woll Could Have Returned on Saturday
However, the team elected to give him an extra three days due to his injury history and not wanting to risk any setbacks, already being without Anthony Stolarz, who has yet to resume skating.
Berube Provides Update on Woll’s Availability Against Chicago
At the conclusion of practice on Monday, in which Woll was a full participant, Berube was asked about the 27-year-old netminder, providing the following update.
“I think he had a good practice. He feels good. I’ll sit down and talk to him. I haven’t talked to him yet.”
As for his availability for Tuesday against the Blackhawks, Berube was coy in his response, not confirming nor denying anything, though the prevailing thought is that Woll will be good to go.
“There’s a chance he could be ready.”
Woll had been a stabilizing force for the Leafs when he returned from his leave of absence, posting a .924 save percentage in his first seven games. Should he return on Tuesday, it will be a welcomed turn of events for the club and Hildeby, who will get a well-deserved rest.
