We witnessed an illegal and unacceptable scene at the end of the game between the Montreal Canadiens and the Edmonton Oilers.

The Oilers’ power forward, Trent Frederic, dangerously hit Alexandre Carrier, and he could have been seriously injured.

It was indeed dangerous and extremely illegal.

Discipline coming for Oilers forward Trent Frederic following the gesture against the Montreal Canadiens defenseman?

The excellent Matt Drake also noticed an absolutely incredible element in this sequence.

It was the referee at the other end of the ice who had to call this penalty, because the one closest to the play wasn’t even going to assess it.

“Hilarious that the back official had to call that. The end zone ref staring at it was going to let it go.”

In short, this will be a situation to monitor throughout Monday, but many are expecting discipline for Trent Frederic.

The good news, and the most important part, is that Carrier appears to have escaped without injury.

In any case, it’s worth noting that Martin St-Louis’ group picked up the win tonight against Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers, bouncing back in impressive fashion after a much more difficult game Saturday night against the New York Rangers.

One of the Habs’ great wins of the month of December!
