There is a serious possibility that is starting to generate more and more buzz surrounding the Montreal Canadiens.
We are talking here about the possibility of seeing the Habs’ goaltending coach, Éric Raymond, lose his job.
I do not necessarily believe it would be the right decision, but clearly, something will have to happen to address the issues in goal for the Canadiens.
A dismissal for Éric Raymond: a possibility that is circulating more and more
I understand that Jakub Dobes has played some good games, I understand that Samuel Montembeault has shown a few encouraging signs (although far fewer than in Dobes’ case), but there is a fairly clear conclusion.
It’s not working. The Montreal Canadiens’ goaltenders have not done the job in this first half of the season!
In fact, according to the majority of the key statistics we look at, the Canadiens’ goaltenders have been (as a tandem) the worst in the National Hockey League during this first half of the season.
It is becoming difficult to hope to make the playoffs, and even worse to hope to win a division, when your goaltenders are delivering the worst performances in the NHL.
I don’t think Éric Raymond is the problem (personally), but I do think that something will have to happen, and I notice that the message simply does not seem to be getting through to the Habs’ goaltenders.
It’s a situation to keep an eye on.
Éric Raymond, 53 years old, was a 5-foot-11, 182-pound goaltender from Montreal. He played goal in France and in a few other places in Europe, in addition to logging 36 games of experience in the American Hockey League.
He has been the Montreal Canadiens’ goaltending coach since the 2021-2022 season.
