It looks like more changes could be coming to the KeyBank Center in downtown Buffalo.

Just days after the Sabres fired GM Kevyn Adams, it looks like Lindy Ruff could be moving on as head coach of the Sabres.

If that is the case, who could take over as head coach for the Buffalo Sabres? There have already been a couple of names floated out there. They include John Tortorella. “Torts” has been a head coach for several different teams, including the New York Rangers, Vancouver Canucks, Columbus Blue Jackets, and the Philadelphia Flyers. He also led Tampa Bay to a Stanley Cup championship in 2004.

The new GM for the Sabres, Jarmo Kekäläinen, was the GM in Columbus when Tortorella was hired, so the two have a relationship. Tortorella last coached the Flyers during the 2024-25 season and was fired after 73 games.

Another name that came up was Peter DeBoer. DeBoer has coached for five teams and was fired by Dallas after losing in the Conference finals three straight seasons. The Sabres would kill to be in the conference finals just once. The Sabres currently have the longest active playoff drought streak in the NHL. They haven’t been to the playoffs since the 2010-11 season.
