The Chicago Blackhawks have another opportunity to get a win after Tuesday’s collapse with a matchup in Montreal.

The Chicago Blackhawks blundered away a win on Tuesday in Toronto. With a 2-0 lead on the host Toronto Maple Leafs deep in the third period, the Blackhawks watched the Leafs score three unanswered goals in regulation and take home the victory. Yes, the team is without Connor Bedard, but they should have won the hockey game.

Now, attention turns to Thursday night against the Montreal Canadiens. The Canadiens are firing on all cylinders offensively, but some other issues have them just out of the Eastern Conference playoff mix. That said, a win on Thursday puts Montreal right back in a Wild Card position.

Chicago Blackhawks at Montreal Canadiens Preview

The Blackhawks may lack their superstar, but put together a pair of respectable efforts against Detroit and Toronto in Bedard’s absence. However, they need to finish. Although Saturday was an overall poor offensive showing with good effort, Tuesday was more of a collapse than anything else. The Hawks are in an intriguing spot. They’re only a few points removed from the league basement, but also only a handful of points away from a playoff spot.

A win on Thursday certainly helps the Hawks find their swagger again. The youngsters will be relied on, with Frank Nazar, recently-recalled Nick Lardis, and the young blue line in the spotlight. The veterans certainly need to be better as well if the Hawks expect to find the win column once again.

As mentioned, Montreal has a great offense. Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, Lane Hutson, and the controversial (in the minds of Hawks fans) Ivan Demidov lead the way offensively for the Canadiens. That said, their goaltending has been suspect at times, resulting in more losses than the team likely hoped. This is a Montreal team that the Hawks took down to the wire in the home opener, so sweet revenge in their own building would be a huge boost. Plus, Frank Nazar has a prime opportunity to continue his role as public enemy #1 in Montreal.
