A former first round pick could be a potential trade target for Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin as he continues to evaluate his options on the market.
The Vancouver Canucks are a team in transition, as described by the front office in recent weeks and while the club is preparing to offload their pending unrestricted free agents ahead of the trade deadline on Friday, March 6th, Patrik Allvin and Jim Rutherford are going to need to ensure they have the right mix of veterans and youngsters on this roster next season and beyond.
“According to several sources, the Vancouver Canucks have let it be known that – in an effort to get younger – they are willing to listen to offers on ‘veteran players.'” Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman said about Vancouver’s trade plans at the end of November.
Former first round pick and Buffalo Sabres star Alex Tuch emerges as trade option for Vancouver Canucks
This week, a report came out suggesting that Buffalo Sabres forward Alex Tuch could be seeking a massive payday on his next contract, potentially as much as $10+ million annually and with his club a bit hesitant to hand over that large sum of money to the 29-year-old forward combined with the direction the team is heading, it looks like he could be a top trade target for many teams leading up to the deadline.
“Reports indicate Tuch is seeking a contract exceeding the $10.625 million AAV that Adrian Kempe secured with Los Angeles. If Tuch is truly digging his heels in for an 8-figure deal, he is effectively pricing himself out of Buffalo-and frankly, he might be overestimating his market value.” Bill Scott of NHL Trade Rumor said.
If the Buffalo Sabres were to officially place Alex Tuch on the trade block, which could happen in the weeks to come after the club made a management change this week, there will be at least a dozen teams lining up for their chance to acquire the former first rounder.
One team that’ll have money to spend next summer and could afford a big contract for Alex Tuch is the Vancouver Canucks and there’s no question he would be a good fit for this roster from a leadership perspective and can rack up the points too, something Adam Foote’s group will need as they enter their rebuild/retooling phase.
However, given that Vancouver is set to rebuild/retool, it’s unclear if Alex Tuch would want to be a part of that or if he’ll even consider taking offers from the Canucks once he hits the free agent market on July 1st, but crazier things have happened and we’ll have to wait and see if Patrik Allvin takes a big swing on Canada Day.
