A lot of Rumors in Ottawa…
Two sources have told they are in talks with Seattle for Mason Marchment….. I would love this moe for a he Sens….
The bigger rumor is that Toronto is in discussions with St. Louis regarding Jordan Binnington and Brayden Schenn….
The Maple Leafs have been dealing with significant goalie injuries, with both Joseph Woll and Anthony Stolarz on the shelf, forcing them to turn to Dennis Hildeby and Artur Akhtyamov. Binnington is attractive as a Stanley Cup winner and one being looked at as a starter for Team Canada at the Olympics. As for Brayden Schenn , Schenn’s production and winning experience could offer Toronto a different look in their top six. Both players have experience playing under Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube, having won the Stanley Cup with him in 2019.
What They Would Have to Give Up?
For Binnington: Binnington earns $6 million per season while Woll only earns $3.6 million for the next three seasons, and Toronto doesn’t have $2.4 million in cap space to take on Binnington’s entire cap hit. They would likely need to pay more assets to convince the Blues to retain half of Binnington’s salary, possibly needing to include Nick Robertson or Calle Jarnkrok, but the Blues’ asking price would likely be much higher.
For Brayden Schenn: The price tag could be a package of a first-round pick, a top prospect like Easton Cowan, or Ben Danford… with the Leafs possibly needing to throw in an additional sweetener or have another team eat salary
