Carolina Hurricanes star forward Seth Jarvis was injured in Friday’s 4-3 shootout loss to the Florida Panthers after crashing hard into the goalpost.
While skating towards to the Panthers net at the beginning of the period, Jarvis was tripped up by Panthers centre Evan Rodrigues and crashed into the left post at full speed, dislodging the net and forcing a whistle from the referee.
Jarvis’ yell upon going down could be heard on the broadcast as his teammates signaled for the head athletic trainer immediately.
Jarvis was helped to the locker room and did not return in a game the Hurricanes eventually lost in a shootout.
Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind’Amour delivered an update on Jarvis after the contest.
“It’s not good,” Brind’Amour said. “He’s going to be out for a while.”
It’s a tough break for the Hurricanes, as Jarvis, 23, leads the team in goals (19) and ranks second in points (29). There is also a potential international ramification with Jarvis among the candidates for Team Canada’s roster at the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympics. He represented Canada at the 4 Nations Face-Off earlier this year.
Team Canada is already potentially going to be missing Chicago Blackhawks forward Connor Bedard, who has dazzled with 19 goals and 44 points in 31 games this season but was placed on Injured Reserve earlier this week.
