Semyon Der-Arguchintsev, a Maple Leafs prospect playing in the KHL has been traded on Saturday from Traktor Chelyabinsk to powerhouse Dynamo Moskva.

Although we haven’t heard much about the Maple Leafs prospects overseas it doesn’t mean there isn’t a good selection who are currently plying their trade in various leagues like the KHL and SHL.

One name who hasn’t gotten a lot of attention though is Semyon Der-Arguchintsev, a former third-round pick and someone who has been putting up very solid numbers in the KHL.

Playing for Traktor Chelyabinsk, he’s been a crucial part of their offense and could be in Toronto’s future plans so long as he signs another contract first.

Toronto prospect Der-Arguchintsev traded in KHL deal

But he’s still making noise in his native Russia. It was announced on Saturday that Der-Arguchintsev was traded from Traktor to Dynamo Moskva in exchange for Maxim Dzhioshvili.

Dzhioshvili, 29, is a hulking power forward at 6’4, 230-pounds who will give Traktor a lot more size in their lineup, meanwhile Der-Arguchintsev has put up 23 points in 33 games (2 goals, 21 assists) and is the complete opposite of Dzhioshvili at only 5’9, 170-pounds.

Toronto drafted Der-Arguchintsev with their 76th overall pick in 2019 and still remains unsigned with the team after his initial contract expired. He played one game for the team in the 2022-23 season, and had no points but was plus-one.

For his KHL career, Der-Arguchintsev has 87 points so far in 145 games (32 goals, 55 assists) while adding 22 points in 32 playoff games; he also had 76 points in 107 games with the Toronto Marlies (25 goals, 51 assists).

He was drafted ahead of such names as Paul Cotter, Philipp Kurashev, and Yegor Sharangovich.

He remains unsigned for the team and it is not known if he will truly factor into things going forward, but for the Maple Leafs it might be worth signing him and giving him his first real taste of NHL action because he’s proven he can hang in the second-biggest pro hockey league in the world.
