Laila Edwards, Abbey Murphy, Taylor Heise are x-factors for Team USA

U.S. and Canada have dominated hockey, and it looks like that will stay the same heading into 2026 Olympics. Nancy Armour lists x-factors for Team USA.

Carolina Hurricanes goal-scoring leader Seth Jarvis will be out “for a while” after crashing into the post at high speed.

Jarvis was charging toward the net with the puck in overtime on Friday, Dec. 19, when he was tripped up by the Florida Panthers’ Evan Rodrigues and crashed into the net. He was holding his midsection as he ended up down along the boards then was helped off the ice to the dressing room.

“It’s not good,” Hurricanes coach Rod Brind’Amour told reporters after the game. “He’s going to be out for a while.”

No penalty was called on the play.

Seth Jarvis injury update

Jarvis was placed on the injured list on Dec. 20, retroactive to the 19th. He’ll be eligible to return after Christmas.

The team recalled Bradly Nadeau.

Jarvis was hurt last month when a teammate’s stick accidentally caught him in the eye. He was able to return the following game.

He leads the Hurricanes with 19 goals. He also played for Team Canada in the 4 Nations Face-Off, but the injury could hurt his chances for being named to the Olympic roster, which must be submitted by Dec. 31.
