Chicago Blackhawks defenceman Matthew Grzelcyk has been fined $2,601.17 for cross-checking Ottawa Senators forward Tim Stützle during Saturday’s game, NHL Player Safety announced Sunday.
The fine is the maximum allowable under the collective bargaining agreement.

The incident occurred in the first period of Saturday afternoon’s matchup when Grzelcyk and Stützle confronted one another after the whistle had blown. Stützle caught the worst of it, getting hit with a cross-check up high before officials broke up the skirmish.
Stützle was handed two minutes for roughing while Grzelcyk drew a double-minor for high-sticking.
The 23-year-old Stützle finished with one goal and two assists for a game-high three points in 19:43 of ice time, while Grzelcyk was a minus-three with two blocked shots in 17:48.
Ottawa won Saturday’s game 6-4.
