After being waived by the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday, defenseman Egor Zamula has cleared waivers, per Elliotte Friedman. The 25-year-old blueliner will be headed to Lehigh Valley, where he will be one of nine defensemen.

With that, the Flyers’ current roster sits at 22 active players ahead of the Holiday Roster Freeze. The deadline to set the rosters before the freeze is at midnight EST on Saturday.

With that, it likely means that no corresponding move will be made until the freeze is over. The NHL Holiday Roster freeze runs from December 20th through the Holiday Break, ending at midnight EST on December 28th.

During this time, NHL teams cannot trade, waive, or loan players. This makes sure that players are in one place and can enjoy the Holidays with their families. Teams are able to place players on injured reserve and make emergency recalls as needed.

With the Flyers waiving Zamula, it leaves their roster at 22 skaters, which would allow them the flexibility to make a recall without needing to place someone on IR during the freeze. It feels more like a move for roster flexibility instead of an imminent move.

I would expect a move regarding the now nine defensemen the Phantoms have on their roster. The Flyers’ farm squad now has Zamula, Helge Grans, Ty Murchison, Christian Kyrou, Adam Ginning, Oliver Bonk, Hunter McDonald, Roman Schmidt, and Maxence Guenette.
