The Grand Rapids Griffins may be the only group of players having reservations about taking a Christmas break.
Grand Rapid’s incredible level of play continued Sunday when the Griffins blanked the Cleveland Monsters, 5-0, on Carter Gylander’s 22-save performance. The win raised the Griffins’ record to 25-1-0-1 as they continue to build on the best 27-game start in the AHL’s 90-year history.
Intriguing Detroit first-round pick Michael Brandsegg-Nygard was one of the scorers as Grand Rapids won its 14th consecutive game.
How long can the Griffins sustain this streak?
Defenseman William Wallinder, perhaps ready to make the jump to the NHL, has two assists. tEduards Tralmaks scored his 13th goal. Ondrej Becher also had an assist. Dominik Shine contributed a goal and an assist, allowing him to pass Tomas Tatar for fourth place on the Griffins’ all-time scoring list ( 210 points).

Wing Pavel Buchnevich and center Brayden Schenn of the St. Louis Blues are considered a trade possibility because Detroit GM and Doug Armstrong have made multiple trades in the past. But consider these facts when considering the possibility of Detroit acquiring either player: Buchnevich, 30, has a no-trade clause and contract that pays him $8 million for five years after this one. Brayden Schenn, 34, seems on the decline (14 points in 37 games) and he two more seasons on his contract ($6.5 million) after this one.
