A former Vancouver Canucks defenseman and long-time executive has landed himself a new job in the NHL after spending parts of four seasons with the Los Angeles Kings.

“I’m hearing that if this slide continues, you could see some changes within the team’s management group after Christmas.” Bob Marjanovich of Maple Ridge News said recently.

It’s unclear if Vancouver is still considering those changes, but there has been plenty of movement in other front offices around the National Hockey League, with one former Canuck finding himself a new gig over the weekend.

Former Vancouver Canucks defenseman hired by the Buffalo Sabres

With the Buffalo Sabres at risk of missing out on the Stanley Cup Playoffs for a 15th consecutive season, it was time for the club to make some changes as General Manager Kevyn Adams was fired and replaced by former Columbus Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen.

Kekalainen didn’t wait long before putting his fingerprints on the organization as the Buffalo Sabres announced on Sunday morning that they’ve hired former Vancouver Canucks defenseman Marc Bergevin as an Associate General Manager.

«Both Marc Bergevin and Josh Flynn bring a wealth of unique experience and perspective, and I am excited to add them to the Buffalo Sabres organization. Adding both to an already strong group adds versatility and helps us continue to build a well-rounded hockey operations staff. Marc has firsthand experience as an NHL general manager and a track record as a strong talent evaluator at the highest level. His insight will be invaluable as we continue to identify and develop talent throughout the organization.” Kekalainen said.

The last couple of months have been pretty busy for Marc Bergevin as nearly six weeks ago, he was named as Team Canada’s General Manager for the 2025 Spengler Cup in Davos, Switzerland, which begins on Friday.

Between the Spengler Cup and the Buffalo Sabres, Marc Bergevin certainly has his hands full, and it could end up being a really good hire by Jarmo Kekalainen, given that the former Canuck is in his 17th season as an executive in the National Hockey League and brings a wealth of experience to the Western New York based club.
