*PREDICTION*

The New Jersey Devils have been in the news lately, mainly for not being the team to land star defenseman Quinn Hughes from the Vancouver Canucks. Hughes was rumored to be traded to the Devils for a long time before he was ultimately sent over to the Minnesota Wild.

Now the Devils will look to make some other moves this year, and it could involve them moving veteran defenseman Dougie Hamilton. Hamilton was subject to trade rumors all offseason, but to this point, New Jersey has held off moving him.

The veteran has three more seasons left on his current contract, and he is scheduled to make $9 million in each season. New Jersey has reportedly wanted to shed some salary on the books, and they reportedly dangled Hamilton earlier this season.

Hamilton remains a very effective player out on the ice, and any team that would land him could be getting a steal. In 32 games this year for the Devils, Hamilton has posted four goals and four assists.

It has been a slower start for the veteran this year, but dealing with all the trade rumors likely hasn’t helped things. Last season with the Devils, Hamilton put up nine goals and had 31 assists over 64 games played in the regular season.

While it remains to be seen if the Devils will actually trade the veteran defenseman, there could be a few teams interested in landing him. But how this all shakes out will likely be determined closer to the NHL trade deadline next spring.

Detroit Red Wings Trade For Dougie Hamilton

One team that could look to make a deal to land Hamilton is the Detroit Red Wings. Detroit is looking to reach the playoffs for the first time in almost a decade, and adding a talent like Hamilton could be the move to get them over the hump.

Due to Hamilton’s ability to both score and playmake for his teammates, the Red Wings could land a steal from a trade. Even with Hamilton being a little older, he remains a strong defenseman on the ice, and Detroit could benefit from having him around.

Hamilton could likely benefit from a change of scenery, and the Red Wings could be the perfect place for him to go. The core that the Red Wings have in place is strong already, but Hamilton could be the missing piece to get them back to the playoffs.

Overall, Hamilton remains one of the bigger names that could be moved at the trade deadline this season, with the Devils seemingly wanting out of his large contract. Detroit could bolster its playoff chances by adding him to the mix, and this is something we should be watching closely as the year goes on.
