The Buffalo Sabres have gotten some great performances from their goalies as of late and as a franchise they have seen some of the all-time best play for them. That includes Dominik Hasek and Ryan Miller, who recently joked about making a return to the NHL.
Recently, Philip Rivers returned to the NFL after not playing in five seasons and has looked pretty good for the Indianapolis Colts. In the NHL, there have been rumors about Marc-Andre Fleury potentially returning after retiring before the season.
While not the same amount of time away from the game, if Fleury were to return, it would be equally as impressive as what Rivers has done. He has played 21 seasons in the NHL, with a majority of the time spent with the Pittsburgh Penguins and Vegas Golden Knights, but recently played for the Minnesota Wild.
Pierre LeBrun recently tweeted that teams had been reaching out to Fleury to see if he would be interested in returning. The most logical landing spot for him to continue his career would be with the Edmonton Oilers, who traded for Tristan Jarry but he suffered an injury that will keep him out for a few weeks.
Ryan Miller asks insider if any team had been asking about him returning
After LeBrun sent out the tweet, the Buffalo Sabres former goalie responded asking if he was “hearing any for me.” He mentioned what Rivers was doing but it was clearly a joke from Miller.
Hearing anything for me @PierreVLeBrun ? I think I’m still within the @PhilipRivers range of a comeback… https://t.co/KF3NrlMPlK

The last time Ryan Miller played in an NHL game was during the 2020-21 season with the Anaheim Ducks. He would also play for Vancouver Canucks and St. Louis Blues but he is known most for his time with the Buffalo Sabres.
Miller began his career in Buffalo and played 11 seasons for the Sabres, and holds the franchise record in games played with 540 and wins with 284. He was one of the best goalies in the NHL during his time in Buffalo and even won the Vezina Trophy in 2010.
Buffalo Sabres would love to have Ryan Miller at his best back in net
While Alex Lyon and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen have been great in net during the Sabres’ recent six-game win streak, no question that having Ryan Miller would be a huge boost. However, they would need Ryan Miller from the mid-2000s for him to make a difference.
In fact, the Sabres right now have too many goalies and this has been something that new general manager Jarmo Kekalainen wants to fix sooner rather than later. In addition to Lyon and Luukkonen, the Sabres have Colten Ellis on their roster, and the Sabres probably don’t waste much time after the roster freeze is lifted on December 28th to get a deal done.
While Ryan Miller was joking, it should give Sabres’ fans something to think about what this team could do with Ryan Miller at his best in net.
