MacKenzie Weegar was none too pleased with the officials during Tuesday’s edition of the Battle of Alberta, and he earned himself a night in the locker room for how he showed it.

After initially receiving a two-minute unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for smacking Darnell Nurse’s stick out of his hands 5:48 into the second period, Weegar took his display to another level in the box. The Calgary Flames defenceman proceeded to slap his stick on the glass, drawing a 10-minute misconduct penalty from the referees.

The ruling put the Flames on a four-on-three penalty kill and cost Calgary one of its most reliable defencemen.

Before Weegar was given his first penalty, the Flames had been sent a man down three times, with the Edmonton Oilers’ power play converting twice.

And while Calgary was able to kill off Weegar’s two minutes, the Oilers scored shortly after to take a 4-1 lead.

Earlier in the game, Weegar scored his third goal of the season, beating Oilers netminder Connor Ingram with a shot from the point.

On the season, Weegar now has 12 points in 37 games for the Flames while averaging 23:49 of ice time.
