The Vancouver Canucks made one of the biggest moves in their franchise’s history trading Quinn Hughes to the Minnesota Wild, and they might not be done dealing with the Wild, as Kiefer Sherwood is rumoured to be heading there as well.
Billy Heyen of Sporting News reported on the possibility of Sherwood heading to St.Paul to join the Wild with his former captain. Sherwood has already recorded 16 goals this season, on pace to score over 30 for the first time in his career, and is second in the league in hits. He is the perfect playoff player, and many teams are trying to acquire him.
“Sherwood got off to a fast start this season scoring. At this point, he has played 36 games, scored 16 goals and dished out four assists. And of course, he has 164 hits. Sherwood had a remarkable 462 hits last season to go along with 19 goals and 21 assists in 78 games.”-Heyen
The best part about Sherwood, he’s only valued at $1.5M AAV on his contract, while he is due for a big raise this summer as he becomes a free agent, a 30 goal scorer at a million dollars is almost unheard of in today’s NHL unless it’s a rookie on a entry-level deal. Sherwood will surely want closer to $5M next season, but for now he would be perfect on any contender.
The Canucks want at least a first round pick for him, and most likely a blue chip prospect. Given his production and salary it’s not a big ask, and it can mutually beneficial to both teams.
