In Boston on Tuesday, Noah Dobson made headlines for the right reasons. In addition to playing a very strong game, he gave fans a good laugh because of one particular sequence.
In the middle of play, the Canadiens defenseman took a high stick. The puck was still live and play was ongoing, but he still made a gesture that says a lot about his calm, composed demeanor.
Dobson immediately calmed down the bench, as if to say to leave it to the officials. The detail that caught everyone’s attention was his sense of timing. Before a whistle even stopped play, while the action was still unfolding, Dobson managed to signal the blood to the referee.
We all know what that means in the NHL. When there’s blood, it opens the door to a double minor.

At 25, he already plays like a veteran in high-pressure moments.
“Noah Dobson takes the high stick, tells his teammates to chill, then makes sure the ref knows about the blood before the whistle even goes.”

Dobson, meanwhile, finished the night with three assists.
In short, we often talk about “smart” plays after the game. This one happened live, during the action, and that’s what got people talking.
