The patience has to be running thin in the locker room for the Los Angeles Kings (15-12-9) after multiple losses in the West in the Pacific Division this past week before the holiday break for Christmas against the Seattle Kraken (15-14-6) on home ice yesterday (Dec. 23).
Goals from Kevin Fiala and Andrei Kuzmenko gets the Los Angeles Kings within one goal of the Kraken in a tough home loss before the holiday break yesterday
Jim Hiller and the Kings fell behind by multiple goals on the scoreboard in the middle frame in the second period yesterday on home ice in the back end of back-to-back games in the division. Winger Kevin Fiala got the Kings some momentum back on the ice yesterday before the end of the second period in the middle frame.
And despite the Kings getting a nice wraparound goal from winger Andrei Kuzmenko in the game’s final frame in the third period yesterday, it was too little too late for the team on the ice.
FIala and Kuzmenko gave their thoughts to the media yesterday after the tough one-goal loss in the third period to Seattle in the Pacific Division.
The Kings will get a few days off to hopefully regroup and find success on the right side of the win column in the standings in the Pacific Division this upcoming weekend on Saturday.
Here’s a look at everything Fiala and Kuzmenko said to the media postgame following the Kings’ close 3-2 loss on home ice at Crypto Arena vs. the Kraken on Dec. 23.
Kevin Fiala
On the goal he scored late in the second period vs. Seattle
“It was a good forecheck from us and just a broken play. I had a quick chance to do a quick move.”
On how the Kings started yesterday vs. Seattle in the first period
“I thought our start was not too bad. We just couldn’t score so we have to figure it out and try to get the lead and stay on top of it.”
On the timing of the holiday break for the Kings this week
“The reality is that we have a break right now, so there’s nothing we should think about tomorrow, game or whatever. Take a good break, enjoy with family and come with big energy back.
Even if you win five in a row or lose five in a row, it’s in the past. I think we need to take the good things with us and the bad things we hopefully analyze and get better at.”
On his feelings about how the team is playing recently
“I’m not real happy, obviously. It’s not going the way we all want to, but that’s going to happen for everybody, not just players, but the whole team. It’s us who has to do something about it, who can pull us out of it, nobody else. It’s happened before, and personally, I’ve been there before, and I’m sure everybody has been there before.
It’s character showing of players and team to get back out of it. I’m not worried. I’m sure we’re going to get out of this, but it’s not acceptable right now how we play, and we have to get better. I really believe in this group, I really believe this is a great team, great players, we just have to figure it out and find our game, not just for some minutes or one game, we have to go for a stretch here, try and get some wins in a row, start feeling good, start playing good and eventually it’s going to come.”
Andrei Kuzmenko
On the goal he scored in the third period vs. Seattle
“It’s a good moment to me. I see the goalkeeper a little bit. One step from the net is my side and I see a good reaction. I got behind the net. But we lose today. We have a pause three days for us is good, little bit of recovery. And think about how we can play better in the offensive zone, defense zone, neutral zone, because this locker room is a lot of great players.”
On the offensive struggles for the Kings on the stat sheet
“it is hard because we don’t have a lot of goals. It’s not good for us because it’s different between last season and now this season and we need to keep working.”
On the communication with Jim Hiller
“Yeah, we have a good communication. And we have a good connection with the coaching staff because everyone is a big help for us and big help in the power play in the PK. But we don’t have a good results it’s questioned about everyone who stay in the locker room. My message is keep working let’s go because it’s a long season 82 games.”
