While the Leafs are wishing for a Christmas miracle to turn things around, Mitch Marner’s Christmas wish was a direct shot at his former team and teammates.

As the NHL enters their Christmas break, players, coaches, management and fans alike have some time to spend with their families and forget about their team’s struggles in the first half of the season.

Mitch Marner Takes Shot At Leafs and Former Teammates

It was Christmas in July for Marner this past summer, when he got his wish of leaving the Maple Leafs for the desert heat and palm trees in Vegas.

Apparently, that wasn’t the final shot Marner was going to deliver to Toronto. Following the Knights’ final home game before the break, Marner was asked what he wanted for Christmas. The former Leafs forward took a direct shot at the Leafs, wishing for “a long playoff run.”

For a guy that couldn’t get out of Toronto fast enough, he has certainly had a hard time letting go of the past.

Marner Was Part of the Problem

The Leafs and Marner never made it past the second round during his time in Toronto and he played a rather large role in that.

From his unnecessary delay of game penalty against the Montreal Canadiens, to his lack of production when the team needed it most; the 28-year-old was a major reason why the Leafs failed to capture a Stanley Cup during the ‘Core Four’ era.

For a guy who couldn’t wait to leave Toronto, he seems to be having a hard time leaving the past in the past.
