Tonight’s Iowa Heartlanders game postponed due to player strike

CORALVILLE, Iowa (KCRG) – Members of the Professional Hockey Players’ Association, which includes the Iowa Heartlanders based in Coralville, are striking in the ECHL after the union and the league could not come to an agreement on a new collective bargaining agreement.

The Iowa Heartlanders had a game scheduled for Friday night, against the Bloomington Bison. That game is now postponed, but the team says that the Heartlanders will host a Bluey meet-and-greet event tonight at Xtream Arena from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

All ticket holders for Friday’s game will receive a flex voucher valid for any remaining Iowa Heartlanders home game during the 2025-26 regular season.

On Friday, the ECHL posted a statement saying it had made its ” last, best, and final offer to the Professional Hockey Players’ Association (PHPA)” on Christmas Day.

The statements goes on to say “While we did not receive a formal response, we have heard from certain players that they will not be reporting for their scheduled games. We strongly encouraged union leadership to submit our offer to a vote of its membership, but we do not believe that happened.”

Yuki Miura, a player for the Iowa Heartlanders, shared a statement from the players on Wednesday that said the strike was about the “league as a whole.”
