ESTERO, Fla. – The Florida Everblades players are officially on strike, putting a pause on their upcoming games. The Florida Everblades announced at least one game is now postponed due to a player strike initiated by the Professional Hockey Players Association against the ECHL.

The PHPA is the union representing players in the ECHL.

The Everblades, who are a member of the league, shared a statement on Friday promising to keep fans informed about any changes to home game schedules.

Players Union Representative and Everblades Forward Logan Lambdin confirmed the strike to WINK News, emphasizing the players’ fight for better safety, travel conditions and rest.

“We’re still fighting for simple things like player safety, travel conditions, and getting proper rest for players,” said Lambdin.

In a statement, the ECHL expressed disappointment over the union’s decision not to allow players to vote on the league’s latest offer.

“Unfortunately, union leaders deprived players of the opportunity to vote on our last, best, and final offer – an offer that would dramatically raise player salaries by 20 percent in the first year, boost the per-diem rate, guarantee more off days, and expand the top-of-the-line equipment available to players,” said an ECHL spokesperson.

The league emphasized the importance of this offer, warning that future proposals could be affected by revenue losses from potential player strikes.

Rowan Kirk, a dedicated Blades fan, voiced his disappointment over the strike.

“I hear strike and I hear ‘not good,'” said Kirk.

He expressed relief at not having tickets for the postponed game, yet empathized with other fans who are affected.

“Everyone likes the games. I didn’t have tickets for tomorrow, which is good for me, but for other people that paid and aren’t going to be able to go… it sucks!” Kirk said.

Another fan, Sean Lenehan, expressed understanding for the players’ situation.

“I feel for them. That’s a real grind playing minor, minor pro hockey, especially at the ECHL level. Those guys, they were on the bus. They’re not taking planes,” the fan said.

Despite differing opinions, fans like Kirk remain hopeful for a resolution.

“Hopefully they’re back on the ice soon,” he said. “Go Blades!”

PHPA Executive Director Brian Ramsay emphasized the importance of ECHL hockey to fans and communities, saying, “Our members are simply seeking reasonable improvements that allow them to work safely and earn a sustainable living while continuing to perform at a high level.” Ramsay also noted the union’s willingness to continue discussions with the league.

In a separate statement, the Everblades stated that their game Saturday, December 27, is now postponed. The status of games on December 28 and December 29 have not changed, for now.

The Everblades are one of top teams for attendance in the ECHL, playing their home games at Hertz Area.
