Chicago brings Landon Slaggert back from Rockford as injuries thin the Blackhawks’ forward group.
The Chicago Blackhawks announced on Saturday morning that Landon Slaggert has been recalled from the Rockford IceHogs. The move comes ahead of Chicago’s first post-holiday game when they take on the Dallas Stars tonight at 7 p.m. CT. This also marks the second time Slaggert has been recalled from Rockford since the start of the season.
Landon Slaggert
Slaggert has 10 games in the NHL this season and only one goal to show for it—that’s his lone point, by the way. In eight games with Rockford, Slaggert has two goals and two assists. Slaggert started the season with a lower-body injury, missed six games, and only played five games before his first demotion to Rockford. While Slaggert’s ceiling appeared to be an excellent bottom-six player last season, his limited impact this season is somewhat surprising.
The Chicago Blackhawks need all the forward help they can get with Connor Bedard and Frank Nazar out. Add in Nick Foligno, and that’s three forwards who are out for the Blackhawks. The Hawks roster currently sits at 22 (13 forwards, seven defensemen, and two goaltenders). Depth players for forwards include Dominic Toninato, Colton Dach, and Sam Lafferty. Jason Dickinson—a bottom-six center—has been in a top-six role. Ryan Greene has been centering the Hawks’ kid line with Nick Lardis and Oliver Moore. Slaggert could use this as an opportunity to move Toninato out of the way.
