The Vancouver Canucks will look to continue their surge up their standings in the post-Quinn Hughes era when they welcome the San Jose Sharks to Rogers Arena tonight.

Both teams have been leaky defensively, which is why I’m predicting a high-scoring game in my Sharks vs. Canucks predictions and NHL picks below.

Sharks vs Canucks prediction

Sharks vs Canucks best bet: Over 6.5 (+115)

The San Jose Sharks and Vancouver Canucks have one thing in common this season — neither team likes to play much defense.

The Sharks are the worst defensive team in the NHL with 3.46 gapg, while the Canucks are not far behind, tied for 29th (3.39 gapg).

San Jose has hit Over 6.5 goals in five straight contests while giving up 4.80 ggp during that stretch. Vancouver has also seen the total reach that mark in each of its last two games.

The Sharks haven’t announced their starting goalie, but both Yaroslav Askarov (.868 SV%) and Alex Nedeljkovic (.890 SV%) have been pretty bad this month.

Askarov has been particularly weak with a 4.53 GAA over his last seven appearances. Give me the Over in what projects as a high-scoring battle.

Sharks vs Canucks same-game parlay

With Hughes gone to Minnesota and Elias Pettersson (upper body) potentially out for his ninth straight game, Kiefer Sherwood could be Vancouver’s top offensive player in the lineup.

He has 10 points in 15 home games this year and has found the score sheet in five of his last nine contests at Rogers Arena.

Macklin Celebrini leads the Sharks with 55 points in 37 contests, recording three multi-point games in his last five outings. The Vancouver native had two assists in his first outing vs. the Canucks this season and will want to impress again in front of his hometown crowd.
