As the Vancouver Canucks ponder their next steps, an NHL insider believes that Patrik Allvin’s group may be a good fit for a three-time 30-goal scorer from the St. Louis Blues.

Following the trade of Quinn Hughes to the Minnesota Wild earlier this month, the Vancouver Canucks are entering a bit of a transition period and while the word “rebuild” has been thrown around a lot lately, Patrik Allvin is calling it a “hybrid retool” as the organization doesn’t want to tear things down completely in order to hopefully be competitive next season.

“We felt that the package Minnesota came up with, with the younger players and it gives us a chance to step back here and retool it a little bit with a hybrid form and getting two young players, Buium is 20, Ohgren is 21 and we needed a center here and Rossi is a highly-talented player that’s very consistent in the league and just 24.” Allvin said.

While the Canucks aren’t expected to be buyers at all at the trade deadline in March, especially after making all of their pending unrestricted free agents available, there is one name the club has been linked to that would give them a big offensive boost.

The St. Louis Blues are going to be an interesting team to watch leading up to the NHL’s trade deadline as reports indicate that they could potentially part with some big names before 12 p.m. PT on March 6th.

One player who has been in the rumors mill dating back to June is 27-year-old winger Jordan Kyrou as several teams, including the Montreal Canadiens, were interested in acquiring him before his no-trade clause went into effect.

In an article for The Athletic recently, NHL insider Chris Johnston mentions that the Vancouver Canucks, along with the Ottawa Senators and New Jersey Devils, are three teams that might be interest in Jordan Kyrou.

“What teams might be interested? Vancouver Canucks, Ottawa Senators, New Jersey Devils

What could the Blues get? An established player of similar stature. Though this could also end up as a future-focused deal, Kyrou seems more likely to be involved in a traditional hockey trade.” Johnston said.

Kyrou, a native of Toronto, Ontario, would bring some much needed offense to the Vancouver Canucks’ top-six, however with Patrik Allvin & Jim Rutherford still planning on undergoing that aforementioned “hybrid retool”, it seems unlikely that they’d be willing to give up future assets such as top prospects and potentially first round picks.
