Protas’ goal gave the lead back to the Caps 57 seconds after New York had tied the game at 2-2.

Jack Hughes, who returned from a freak hand injury on Monday, shares the team lead of 11 goals with Timo Meier, while Nico Hischier has a team-best 29 points. Jake Allen is 10-8-0 with a shutout in 19 games and 18 starts, posting a .912 save percentage and 2.47 goals against average. Tom Wilson, who didn’t play on Tuesday due to an illness, tops Washington with 17 goals and 34 points while Alex Ovechkin and Jakob Chychryn have 14 goals apiece. Logan Thompson is 14-9-3 in 26 starts with two shutouts, a .917 save percentage, and 2.24 GAA.
