The Seattle Kraken announced on Sunday that Jared McCann has been activated from injured reserve and is expected to play against the Philadelphia Flyers after spending a seven-game stretch sidelined with a lower-body injury.

McCann was hurt against the Los Angeles Kings on Dec. 10 following a collision with goalie Anton Forsberg in the final minute of the game.

He was initially expected to miss several weeks, but instead, the 29-year-old is back ahead of schedule.

The lower-body injury is the latest setback in a season that has been repeatedly derailed. The left-winger has only played 11 games this year but has remained productive, scoring five goals and recording three assists in that stretch.

The Kraken are currently on a three-game win streak, and McCann’s return will be a timely boost for a team looking to close the gap on the Western Conference wild-card race.

Seattle begins a three-game home run on Sunday against the Flyers before hosting the Vancouver Canucks on Monday and the Nashville Predators on Thursday at the Climate Pledge Arena.
