The Seattle Kraken have been moving in the right direction on the ice in the past week, and now they’re moving in the right direction when it comes to health.

Jared McCann has been activated from injured reserve ahead of Sunday’s 5 p.m. game against the Philadelphia Flyers at Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena, which should be a boost for a Kraken offense that is second-to-last in the NHL with 2.54 goals per game.

McCann has been out of action since suffering a lower-body injury on Dec. 10 against the Los Angeles Kings. It was his second extended absence this season, as he was just six games into his return from a previous lower-body injury at the time that he was placed on IR earlier this month.

The 29-year-old McCann has appeared in 11 of the Kraken’s 35 games so far this season. He has eight points on five goals and three assists, with 27 shots and a zero plus/minus.

McCann is the all-time leader in Kraken history with 123 goals and 251 points, and is second on the team’s all-time assists list with 128. He set Kraken single-season records with 40 goals and 70 points during the 2022-23 campaign, and has led Seattle in points in each of its first four NHL seasons.

Seattle picked McCann in its expansion draft in 2021.

The Kraken (15-14-6) have won three straight, ending a season-worst skid where they lost 10 of 11 games to fall into last place in the league. With 36 points in the standings, Seattle enters Sunday tied for sixth in the eight-team Pacific Division.

Seattle still has center Jaden Schwartz and defenseman Brandon Montour on IR, but saw rookie center Berkly Catton return Tuesday after missing over two weeks with an upper-body injury. Star defenseman Vince Dunn could return Sunday after missing Tuesday’s game with an upper-body injury suffered Monday against the Anaheim Ducks.
