The Chicago Blackhawks announced on social media that forward Nick Foligno has been activated from injured reserve and will make his return to the lineup for their game on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The team also announced that forward Frank Nazar has been placed on IR, retroactive to Dec. 20, with an upper-body injury.
Foligno missed 19 games and has been out of the lineup since Nov. 15 after he sustained a hand injury in a game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Through 16 games in 2025-26, Foligno had six assists and 16 penalty minutes. Now in his third season with the Blackhawks, the Chicago captain has 32 goals and 46 assists for 78 points and 121 penalty minutes in 167 regular-season games.
Through 19 NHL seasons, Foligno, a 2006 first-round pick for the Ottawa Senators, has 247 goals and 356 assists for 603 points and 996 penalty minutes in 1,248 career games with the Blackhawks, Maple Leafs, Senators, Boston Bruins and Columbus Blue Jackets.
He’s also played in 68 career playoff games, where he’s recorded 10 goals and 17 assists for 27 points.
Foligno spent three seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with the Sudbury Wolves, where he scored 65 goals and 131 assists for 196 points in 196 career games. He also recorded 18 goals and 25 assists for 43 points in 43 OHL playoff games.
Going into Sunday night, the Blackhawks are 14-17-6 with 34 points through 37 games. They are seventh in the Central Division, 14th in the Western Conference and 30th in the NHL.
Despite missing six games due to injury, Connor Bedard leads the team in all offensive categories with 19 goals and 25 assists for 44 points. The team announced earlier in December that Bedard would be re-evaluated in January.
