The Penguins needed to make a move to stay under the 23-man roster limit after acquiring Yegor Chinakhov, and that move is going to be waiving Ryan Graves.
The trade was made after 2 p.m., so the next opportunity to put a player on waivers isn’t until 2 p.m. on Tuesday. Graves was designated non-roster for waivers purposes before the trade was completed, and he will go on waivers Tuesday. If he clears at 2 p.m. Wednesday, he will be sent to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
Among the 12 defensemen the Penguins have dressed this season, Graves ranks second in on-ice share of shot attempts (52.59%), the best in unblocked attempts (55.34%), the best in shots on goal (55.28%), and the second-best in expected goals (54.76%).
