A new report out this week indicates that the Vancouver Canucks are still receiving calls from teams around the NHL regarding Elias Pettersson’s availability on the trade market.
After making their pending unrestricted free agents and some veteran players available for trade, the Vancouver Canucks are expected to be quite busy in the lead up to the trade deadline, which is only 66 days away and with another roster freeze coming into effect during the Winter Olympics, we could see action a lot sooner than in a normal year.
When looking at the Vancouver Canucks, all eyes are on Kiefer Sherwood and where the team’s leading goal scorer will end up in the weeks to come, with upwards of a dozen teams interested in the Columbus, Ohio native, but there are others that could be on the move as well.
Forward Evander Kane is likely to draw interest based on his experience and what he can bring from a physical standpoint in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but could we potentially see an even bigger name moved by Patrik Allvin before the deadline?
Vancouver Canucks reportedly receiving calls from teams about Elias Pettersson
“Have heard from a good source that teams are still calling about Pettersson, though as another source said, what are other teams really going to offer?” Johnston said.
Pettersson, a native of Sundsvall, Sweden, has seen his name floating around in trade rumors for the better part of a year now, with teams like the Carolina Hurricanes, Buffalo Sabres among others linked to the Canucks forward at various points in the last 12 months.
An Elias Pettersson trade would not be easy to complete for General Manager Patrik Allvin as the 27-year-old has six years remaining on his contract with a cap hit of $11.6 million USD, something most teams wouldn’t be able to take on, along with a full no-movement clause, meaning he has control over where he goes, if he ever wants to be traded by the Canucks.
Along with Elias Pettersson, some other non-pending UFA names that could draw interest on the trade market include forward Conor Garland and potentially even goaltender Thatcher Demko.
