The New Year may have been a little low key as far as sport in Hong Kong is concerned, but 2026 is promising to be just as busy as the past 12 months.

Along with major events such as the Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens, LIV Golf and the return of the World Table Tennis Finals, there is something for almost everyone in the coming year.

And while there is still no word yet on whether the hugely successful Football Festival will be back again, here are some of the events we do know about so you can start planning your days off.

There’s no hanging about this month, with men’s tennis, women’s fencing, some running and the return of the Longines Hong Kong International Horse Show.

Bank of China Hong Kong Tennis Open: running from January 5 to 11, some of the men’s best will battle it out at Victoria Park in one of the first ATP 250 tournaments of the year. Already signed up are Chinese pair Wu Yibing and Jerry Shang Juncheng, defending champion Alexandre Muller and the city’s very own Coleman Wong Chak-lam.

Women’s Foil World Cup: taking place at the AsiaWorld-Expo from January 9 to, the event returns for a third year with a healthy Hong Kong contingent led by Daphne Chan Nok-sze. Last year’s competition was won by rising American star Jaelyn Liu. Other big names to watch out for include China’s Fu Yuming.

Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon: back again for another year, the city’s biggest race day takes place on January 18. No information has been provided by organisers as to who the elite runners will be.
