Welcome to your nightmare, Detroit Red Wings fans.

Look closely at the above photo. Zoom in on the kid second from the left in the front row, kneeling next to the goalie.

Is that . . . no, it couldn’t be.

And yet, it is.

Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby, adorned in Red Wings colors, the legendary Winged Wheel darting across his chest.

For a legion of Red Wings fans, this is their worst nightmare.

A generation of Detroit fans has grown up detesting Crosby. They hold him to blame for the 2009 Stanley Cup final loss, when Crosby captained the Penguins to a Game 7 victory at Joe Louis Arena. You know they will boo him when he touches the puck as the Penguins visit Little Caesars Arena on Saturday afternoon.

And Crosby continues to haunt them.

Thursday, he scored two goals in the first six minutes of the game against Detroit. Then, he teed up Kris Letang for the overtime winner as the Penguins edged the Wings 4-3 in overtime.

“Well, he is who he is for a reason, and those are exactly them,” Wings coach Todd McLellan told FanDuel Sports Network Detroit after the loss. “I think he was in on three of the goals.

“You know, he’s so good on his backhand, and he’s just an incredible player.”

Crosby Wore The Red Wings Logo For Years

Long before he was tormenting the Wings, Crosby was among them.

Well, sort of.

He spent much of his youth hockey career in Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, playing for the Cole Harbour Red Wings.

Same red and white unis. Same Winged Wheel logo.

Crosby wore the Red Wings colors while playing in the world-famous Quebec peewee tournament. While playing for the Cole Harbour Red Wings bantam AAA team during the 2000-01 season, Crosby scored 86 goals and 96 assists for 182 points.

He achieved those numbers in just 63 games. Crosby added another 10 goals and six assists in five playoff games.

So, if you’ve ever wondered what Sid The Kid might look like in a Red Wings uniform, wonder no more.

Just take a look.
