Will Ferrell is still finding new ways to make us laugh. The legendary comedic actor appeared at Thursday’s Los Angeles Kings game in full referee garb, amusing the Crypto.com Arena crowd by making calls from behind the glass.

It was a committed performance from Ferrell, and he had a hilarious reason for it on the Kings’ broadcast.

“I’ve always been in support of the NHL referees,” Ferrell said with a deadpan delivery. “In fact, I trained two of the guys out there. They’re two of my prized students. Brandon and Francis. They’re calling a heck of a game.”

Ferrell also joked that he may be pressed into action. Despite having not worn skates for the last 15 years, the Emmy winner says he’s still “very nimble” and ready to hit the ice.

“You never know,” Ferrell said. “If one of those [refs] goes down, I may have to put on the skates and get out there.”

Ferrell famously wore skates in the 2007 figure skating comedy Blades of Glory, which he starred alongside Owen Wilson. A veteran of the sports film, Ferrell also played a NASCAR driver in Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, a basketball player in Semi-Pro and a youth soccer coach in Kicking and Screaming.

What better way to start the new year than with an iconic Ferrell comedy moment.
