Former UConn standout Tage Thompson was named to the men’s U.S. hockey roster for the Milan-Cortina Olympics in February on Friday.
Thompson played for the Huskies during his freshman season in 2015/2016 and sophomore season in 2016/2017.
He made an immediate impact on the team, according to his bio on the UConn Athletics website, playing in all 36 games during his rookie year.
Thompson scored 14 goals and had 18 assists, giving him the second-best point total on the team. He also led the nation in power-play goals as a freshman with 13.
He was selected in the first-round of the 2016 NHL Draft by the St. Louis Blues with the 26th overall pick. He’s he highest drafted player in UConn program history.
Thompson spent his sophomore season at UConn, scoring 19 goals, and with 13 assists before making the move to the NHL.
He played one season for the Blues before being traded to the Buffalo Sabres, where he still plays today.
Tage is the son of Brent Thompson, who was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in 1989. Brent Thompson played in the league from 1991-97 for the Kings, Winnipeg Jets, and Phoenix Coyotes. He also had two stints as head coach of the then-Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
