A longtime member of the Calgary Flames roster will be representing his country at the upcoming 2026 Winter Olympics. On Friday morning, the Swedish Ice Hockey Association officially unveiled its men’s hockey roster for the upcoming Olympics, and Flames defender Rasmus Andersson was named as part of that team.
Andersson is one of eight blueliners named to the roster, which also includes Philip Broberg, Jonas Brodin, Rasmus Dahlin, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Gustav Forsling, Victor Hedman and Erik Karlsson.
Six of the eight blueliners on Sweden’s roster were also part of their entry at the 4 Nations Face-Off: Mattias Ekholm was dropped since that event, and Broberg and Ekman-Larsson added. Andersson and Brodin also represented Sweden at the World Championships during the spring, with Andersson serving as captain.
It’s been a big year or so for the 29-year-old Andersson on the international stage. He had previously suited up at the Under-18 level for Sweden, but it wasn’t until the 4 Nations Face-Off and the Worlds in 2025 that he had represented his country at the senior level. More excitingly for Andersson, his appearance at the 2026 Olympics will allow him to join his father, Peter, as Olympians. Peter previously suited up for Sweden at 1992 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway. (Sweden finished fifth.)
Andersson’s been arguably the Flames’ top player in 2025-26 thus far, posting 26 points in 40 games and scoring at the highest pace in his NHL career to date. Time will tell if he can keep this level of play up.
The Olympic men’s hockey tournament runs Feb. 11-22 in Milan, Italy.
