Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin named to U.S. Olympic hockey team

  • January 3, 2026

MILAN, Italy – Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin will represent the United States at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina.

The 29-year-old Waterford native will make his Olympic debut during the games, which run from Feb. 6 to Feb. 22.

This marks the first time NHL players will participate in the Olympics since the 2014 Sochi Games.

Larkin received his 2026 invite from U.S. general manager Bill Guerin ahead of the official announcement on Jan. 2

Larkin is the only Red Wing on the roster released Friday, but he’s not the only player from Michigan.

Joining Larkin are several other Michiganders, including Winnipeg Jets star goalie Connor Hellebuyck from Commerce and New Jersey Devils forward Jack Hughes from Canton.

Larkin is also joined by three former University of Michigan teammates from the state.

Jack Hughes’ brother, Quinn Hughes, also made the team.

Other Michigan natives on the roster include Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Zach Werenski from Grosse Pointe Woods and Winnipeg Jets forward Kyle Connor from Shelby Township.

Team USA’s first game is set for 9:10 p.m. ET on Feb. 12 against Latvia.

The gold medal game will take place Feb. 22.
