We have an update regarding the Montreal Canadiens’ game plan for the day.
The Montreal Canadiens stayed overnight in Carolina. After Thursday’s game, the team did not board the plane, as the plan was to stay put, catch their breath, then put the skates back on Friday (in just a few minutes).
We’re talking about an optional practice, so everyone manages their body in their own way.
Martin St-Louis calls for an optional practice today
In an 82-game season, these small decisions matter. When you have to play 41 games on the road, you look for every possible minute of recovery. An extra night in the same place also avoids an entire day spent running between the hotel, the airport, and the rink.
What stands out is the timing. Friday afternoon in Carolina, then straight to St. Louis for a Saturday afternoon game against the Blues. In the NHL, an afternoon game changes the rhythm, especially when it comes right after travel, so I wonder if that factored into the decision.

The key word here is optional. That means the ice won’t be packed at all costs. Some players will want to break a sweat to keep the engine warm. Others will prefer treatment, rest, and a lighter routine.
